Western Union now lets a remittance arrive as a dollar balance

37

markets where a Western Union transfer can land as dollars on Solana

Most remittance products end the same way: the money arrives and is converted into local currency on the spot. In countries where that currency loses value month to month, the conversion is where a household quietly loses part of what was sent.

On 4 August 2026 Western Union launched Stablecard with the card issuer Rain in 37 markets. Recipients can take a Western Union transfer straight into a wallet holding USDPT, a dollar stablecoin issued by Anchorage Digital Bank on Solana and redeemable one for one, then spend it on a Visa card, including through Apple Pay and Google Pay. Western Union says the launch markets include ones where local currency is unstable, and it is aiming for more than 60 by the end of the year.

The reason to log it is who is doing it. Western Union is the incumbent in exactly the corridors this site cares about, and it has put its own payout onto Solana rails. The open question is no longer whether stablecoins can reach remittance recipients, but how many of them use it.
